David Hykes is a composer, singer, teacher of contemplative music and meditation, and visual artist. He directs the Harmonic Presence Foundation which since 1981 has explored resonant relationships between mind, music, and the medicine of healing harmonization, sharing the Harmonic Presence work world-wide through retreats, seminars and conferences. In 1975 he founded the Harmonic Chant contemplative practices, an approach to a primordial "music of the spheres" based on the harmonic series, as found in all music, and throughout the universe since the Big Bang (the Cosmic Microwave Background, or CMB).

He and his group The Harmonic Choir were artists-in-residence for yen ears at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in New York City. He was the first westerner to meet and collaborate with overtone musician-practitioners from Tibet, Tuva, and Mongolia. He has offered concerts for H.H. the Dalai Lama, Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoché, Chokyi Nima Rinpoché, Tsoknyi Rinpoché, Rangjung Yeshe Institute,  and the Gyuto and Gyume Monks. He is a noted “sacred cinema” composer (Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche’s "Travellers and Magicians,” Ron Fricke’s ”Baraka,” Peter Brook’s "Meetings with Remarkable Men,” two films by Terrence Malick, etc. http://vimeo.com/22452719;http://vimeo.com/22989838

His visual art work is focussed on the ongoing Harmonic Visions series, in which he creates evocative visual mandalas and imagery with his voice, using the Harmonic Vision software, which translates sonic harmonics into corresponding visual wave patterns. Hykes's work has been received awards from UNESCO, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Rockefeller Foundation, the New York State Council on the Arts, the Edwards Art Fund, the Threshold Foundation and the Flying Elephants Foundation, among others. He has released 12 albums, several with his pioneering group The Harmonic Choir, including "Hearing Solar Winds," one of the best-selling "throat-singing" albums of all time. The Foundation maintains a research and retreat center in France.  Hykes gives concerts, seminars, and master classes, and leads contemplative music & meditation retreats in countries around the world.
